The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that they will fund more than $16 million for cleanup efforts at contaminated brownfields sites.
Twenty-seven state and local governments will receive these funds which will help them carry out cleanup activities, redevelopment projects, and create jobs for people living near brownfields sites. Some of these funded sites include:
- A mill redevelopment project in North Dam Mill, Biddeford, Maine
- Cleanup of the former Swift Factory in Hartford, Conn.
- The three-acre former PR Mallory Building site in Indianapolis, Ind.
- Redevelopment of more than 38 acres of a former manufacturing plant in the towns of Dixmoor and Harvey, Ill.
