Over 6,500 national and local policymakers, engineers and designers, and private sector developers attended the 2011 National Brownfields Conference in Philadelphia April 3-6. It was one of the most well attended conferences in the 14-year history of the National Brownfields Conference.

In order for renewable energy projects to become commonplace on old landfills and other contaminated sites, project proponents and their lenders must, on a regular basis, be able to secure concrete limitations on their environmental cleanup liability exposure.

One of the Mobile Workshops available at Brownfields 2011 will take you through a wildlife refuge just outside of downtown Philadelphia. The refuge, established by an act of Congress in 1972 to protect the last 200 acres of freshwater tidal marsh in Pennsylvania, has become a resting and feeding area for more than 300 species of birds, as well as fox, deer, muskrat, turtles, fish, frogs and a wide variety of wildflowers and plants.
